Dr Sebastian Vollmer is Programme Co-Director for Health and Director of the Turing Data Study Groups. Sebastian obtained his PhD in mathematics under the supervision of Andrew Stuart and Martin Hairer at the University of Warwick in 2013. He was a postdoctoral fellow of Arnaud Doucet and Yee Whye Teh at the University of Oxford, working on Bayesian Inference for Big Data with Stochastic Gradient Markov Chain Monte Carlo.
Sebastian is currently Associate Professor at the departments of mathematics and statistics at the University of Warwick. He is also engaged as a Group Leader in The Alan Turing Institute-Lloyd’s Register Foundation programme in data-centric engineering where he focuses on reliability engineering and predictive analytics for energy sector. He currently is co-leading two projects on machine learning for the A&E department.
Sebastian started the Data Study Groups in December 2016 and now leads the executive team delivering the events. Due to high demand from both businesses and academics, we now run three study groups per year at The Alan Turing Institute. The week-long events bring together talented data science researchers to work on industry, public sector or third sector challenges, working to solve real-world problems with real-world datasets.
